Frequently Asked Questions

DJ Eddie Freitas

· Q: What is your fee?

· A: To get a quote for your event, use my Price Quote system! It’s easy and when you complete it, I will get an email with your information so I can contact you. Rates are determined by date, location and services provided. Special pricing may be available for weekday and off-season events.

· Q: How will you dress for my special event?

· A: Depending on the occasion, I can be dressed in anything from a tuxedo to a less formal attire of dress pants, dress shirt and a tie. I always dress appropriately.

· Q: Do you use professional equipment? Is it dependable?

· A: I use high quality equipment. My FBT Maxx4A speakers have built-in amplifiers and provide a nice, even sound throughout the room. My huge library of music is 100% digital.

· Q: Do you take requests?

· A: Yes, I do. I ask for requests. My library consists of music from the Big band Era to today’s hits. I am sure I can find something for everyone at your function! However, I try to screen the requests. I try to play songs that will either make people dance or at least will bring some enjoyment. For instance, Cocaine by Eric Clapton would probably never be played at your reception. Yes, I have had requests for it!

· Q: Can I request to NOT play certain songs?

· A: Absolutely. In fact, my on-line planner has a section specific to which songs you want played and which songs to avoid.

· Q: Do you have other DJ’s working for you? If we hire you, will you be the DJ who actually shows up?

· A: I do not have a crew of DJ’s working for me. I will never send you another DJ for any reason, if you hire me, I show up. In my years, I have had 2 instances in which the person who hired me actually booked me for the wrong date. Both times, I was already booked for the date they intended to reserve. I made a few phone calls and found them a suitable replacement.

· Q: What do you do in the event that you are ill or can’t perform?

· A: This has only happened once in 27 years. When it did happen (I was hospitalized the day of a wedding reception), I called another DJ friend who did the job. He charges more than I do, so I made up the difference. If I was unable to find a replacement, unfortunately the best I could do would be to refund your deposit. However, for me not to show up, I would have to be extremely incapacitated. Furthermore, regardless of what other DJ companies say, when something happens that prevents a DJ from showing up, there are no guarantees that they will have another DJ available.

· Q: I’ve heard stories about DJ’s cancelling at the last minute or taking deposits and then disappearing. Is this normal for DJ’s to do?

· A: Absolutely not! Unfortunately there are plenty of local DJ’s in the Greater New Bedford area (and everywhere else) who will do things like this. This gives the rest of us a black eye. I’ve been hired at the last minute to DJ at parties due to the original DJ not showing up. When this happens, I charge my normal rate. I won’t jack up my fee just because someone is desperate! They have already been screwed enough! Many times, there are silly excuses but the truth is probably that they found a better paying job. If you hire me, I will be there!

· Q: Do you meet with your clients?

· A: Yes, if that is what they want. Most times, it is just more convenient to handle everything via phone or email. I have an amazing on-line planner that is a great help in organizing the details of an event. This is a tool that a client can use at their convenience, 24/7. After they have completed this planner, I review it and go over every detail prior to the event. It saves time and believe me, my clients love it.

· Q: Can I see you at an event? Do you provide a video or DVD? What about references?

· A: For privacy reasons, I will never invite a prospective client to a private party. Regarding videos and references: In my humble opinion, they are bogus. Demo videos are rehearsed and rehearsed until perfection. Nobody is perfect, everyone makes mistakes. I will make mistakes at your party but through years of experience and proper preparation for your event, you probably won’t even notice them! Also, referrals are useless. If you want me to give you a list of satisfied customers, I can do that for you. But, what business would ever give the name and contact number of someone who wasn’t satisfied? Unfortunately, there aren’t too many ways to check out a vender other than what you’ve heard from your own family and friends, what function halls say about them and what other vendors say. Even that isn’t very useful because a lot of times, function halls and other vendors have their own list of preferred DJ’s, many of which offer kickbacks for referrals. (I don’t)

· Q: Are you a full time DJ?

· A: No, I am a full time firefighter who happens to also be a DJ. I have a real job that pays most of my bills and feeds my family. I started DJing when I was a kid and never stopped. The reason I am able to keep my rates reasonable is that I do not have to rely on my DJ biz to support me and my family. I do not have to pay rent for an office, I do not have to pay for my own insurance. Some DJ’s will try to sell you on their being “full time DJ’s”. Don’t believe the hype! Just because they claim to be full time DJ’s doesn’t mean they are any better than a “weekend warrior”.

· Q: Do I tip the DJ?

· A: That is up to you. I am comfortable with the fees I charge, so I don’t expect a tip ever. If you feel the need to tip me, I will politely decline but if you insist, I’ll take it just so I don’t offend you!

· Q: Do I feed the DJ?

· A: If you’d like to offer me a meal, I will probably accept it with much appreciation!
